Founder of HOBBY HOUSE Studio Marina Tsikarishvili Tells us about their activities and future plans:

  • With the support of the Association "Woman and Business", within the framework of a small grant program, in April 2015, I established a studio in the village of Shulaveri, Marneuli Municipality. The aim was for the girls living in the countryside to learn handicrafts, to get acquainted with the applied arts, so that later this knowledge, if they wished, could become their specialty. We came up with the name - "HOBBY HOUSE" - because this passion, hobby, united us, we all loved art, handicrafts.

The students of the studio are teenage girls of different ethnic backgrounds; As it turned out in their relations with them, they did not know Georgian well, they had difficulty communicating; They did not even know the corners of Georgia.

      My goal was for the girls to study the Georgian language, get acquainted with different parts of Georgia, ethnography and art, and then reflect these impressions in their work; That girls have re-socialized themselves in society. I think we could do it; We have participated in many exhibitions during these 6 years and we have also won awards.

  We work together - together we decide what topics to choose; We learned to make felt, we learned to weave with both sticks and kaisnaghi, we learned to make dolls, we worked with beads, we made collages and so on and so forth; Then I realized that girls get bored of monotony, so we move on to another genre, creating diversity in creativity;

We have been members of the Association of People's Industrialists since 2019. During 6 years of work we have been to many festivals, both in Georgia and in neighboring countries, we have participated in many exhibitions and sales, we have had personal exhibitions in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Marneuli.

Exhibitions, people's evaluations, praise and remarks are very important to us, which we always take into account.

When we started making puppets, we had the idea to create a puppet theater in Rome; We found a script, we staged a play that the audience liked; This made us brave and we showed these performances to our peers in different cities; Then we played at the Children’s Rehabilitation Center. ეSo a small puppet theater was set up in our studio.

Plans for the future have been thwarted by the pandemic, but we have not stopped, working remotely, creating works of art and looking forward to exhibitions and new projects.
